Michael Picco is the President and Founder of PICCO Engineering and the driving force behind its continued success. With more than 25 years’ experience in stone consulting and engineering, Michael remains active in project sponsorship and is a much sought-after speaker on the subject of stone cladding and anchoring systems. He has shared his expertise with industry leaders from around the world, offering seminars at StoneExpo for The Marble Institute of America and at Marmomacc – International Exposition of Stone Design & Technology in Verona, Italy.
In addition to earning a Bachelor of Engineering degree from McMaster University, Michael is registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan, the Marble Institute of America, and the Ontario Home Builders Association. He is also the safety consultant for the Residential Framing Contractors Association of Metropolitan Toronto and vicinity, an active member of the Canadian Standard Association technical committee on Masonry Design S304.1, Chair of the Toronto Chapter for the Marble Institute of America and the Chief Consultant to The Terrazzo Tile and Marble Association of Canada, serving on their Dimension Stone Guide committee. Voted onto the Marble Institute of America’s Board of Directors in 2015, Michael is serving a 5 year term as Canada’s representative to the MIA.
Maria Castro oversees the day-to-day running the organization and plays an integral role in helping the organization achieve its goals and targets. She is responsible for all financial functions, HR, Administration, IT, operations and strategic planning, working with the divisional managers.
Maria has over 20 years’ experience in senior leadership and executive roles, earning her a reputation as a skilled and accomplished business leader. She is a passionate, energetic and proactive leader committed to leading sustainable financial processes, business transformation and strategic business improvements. Maria received her Business degree from York University and hold a C.A. designation.
Jacinto (Jazz) Alvarez is Lead Engineer on PICCOs’s residential projects. Jazz, as required, also provides engineering assistance in stone and lightweight cladding projects, both locally and abroad and has more than 30 years of construction experience both in the office and onsite.
Jazz holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and Sanitary and Environmental Engineering and is registered with the Professional Engineers of Ontario, the State of Michigan, the State of Minnesota, the State of Pennsylvania, the State of Nevada, and the District of Columbia. He is certified and registered with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. This allows accommodation of client needs in various jurisdictions.
Karl Doucas has been an indispensable part of the PICCO Engineering team since 1999. As an integral part of the organization, Karl oversees all aspects of day-to-day operations driving best in class results with our internal team and for our valued clients. As an experienced problem solver and change agent, Karl is also a key driver of our strategic growth and planning processes.
Karl holds a Diploma in Architectural Technology from Centennial College, BCIN certification with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and he has a PMP designation with the Project Management Institute. Karl also contributes regularly as a member of the Architectural Advisory Board at Humber College.
